Frequently Asked Questions
What can I track in Recap?
Almost anything you experience — movies, TV shows, books, restaurants, cafes, travel destinations, museums, concerts, and more. If you loved it (or even if you didn't), you can log it.
How does the AI work?
When you're on the detail page of any entry you've logged, you'll see a button called "Ask AI." Clicking it opens a text field where you can enter a question about that entry. You can also pick a predefined question from a list. Our service engine sends your question to the AI provider you choose and displays the response. You can then save the answer alongside the entry.
Note: Each question costs one AI credit. You'll receive a few bonus credits when you first install the app. Once your credits run out, you'll need to purchase a Credits Pack to continue using AI.
Recap also offers a Pro Upgrade that allows you to use your own AI API key. You can follow the Pro Feature page to set it up. With your own key, you can ask as many questions as your provider allows.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your memory log is stored locally on your device and is never transferred to our servers. It is completely private to you. We only track your purchases on our server in case you need to transfer purchased credits to a new device.
Can I use Recap offline?
Currently, you need an internet connection to create memory entries or ask questions. However, you can view your saved log offline.
Is Recap free?
Recap offers unlimited logging for free. However, using AI requires AI Credits. The app gives you a few bonus credits to start. After you use them up, you'll need to purchase credit packs or upgrade to Pro to continue asking questions.
Can I sync Recap across devices?
No. You can install Recap on multiple Apple devices, but credits and log data are not automatically shared. However, you can back up your memory items on one device to iCloud and restore them on another device.
Credits can be transferred from an old device to a new one if you link your Apple ID on both devices. Note that linking on the new device will void all credits on the old device.
How do I delete something from my log?
Swipe an item on the home page to archive it. This hides the item from your main view. Select "Archived" from the filter menu to see all archived items. Then you can delete any archived item by swiping it.
What if the AI gets something wrong?
It can happen, depending on the AI provider or how you phrase your question. Recap sends your question along with relevant context (such as the item's category and name) to the AI provider, but it doesn't guarantee the information will be perfectly clear to the AI. We recommend adding specific details to your question, just as you would with any chatbot.
Recap gives you the choice to discard or save each answer. If you save it, the answer is stored with the item you asked about. You can review these answers at any time.
